I. What is Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr, also known as Ramadan, is one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar. It marks the end of Ramadan (the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar), during which believers fast all day. On the day of the festival, people dressed in traditional costumes gather in mosques and open spaces to pray, exchange greetings and share a feast.
II. History of Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr originated in 624 A.D. and was founded by the Prophet Muhammad. It is said that on this day, the Prophet won the Battle of Badr, which was celebrated and sweets were distributed. Since then, Eid has become an annual day for Muslims to celebrate the end of Ramadan and give thanks to Allah.
III. Legends and stories of Eid al-Fitr
There are many legends and stories about Eid al-Fitr. One of them is that the Prophet Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina to escape persecution, fasted for three days on the way and then asked his followers to fast with him. Another legend is that during the month of Ramadan, the Prophet won two important battles and it is believed that Ramadan celebrates the wars and Eid celebrates the victories.
IV. Celebration of Eid al-Fitr
On the day of Eid al-Fitr, Muslims begin by offering namaz, followed by hugging each other in congratulations. Various sweets are made at home and family and friends visit each other. People wear new clothes, pray for peace and thank Allah for the power of fasting. Zakat is also given to the poor and needy.
V. Dates of Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr 2024 will begin on the evening of 10 April and end on the evening of 11 April. The date of Eid al-Fitr is determined according to the Islamic calendar and varies from year to year.
